The mouflon sheep, originally imported to Mediterranean islands like Corsica during the Neolithic period (6000–7000 BC), were later introduced to European parks and wild areas in the 18th century. Crossbreeding with domestic sheep and Asian subspecies led to the emergence of the European mouflon, with diluted Corsican traits.
However, since 1935, pure Corsican mouflons have been reintroduced to southern France (Alps, Pyrenees, Massif Central). Due to similar habitats and preserved genetics, these populations have retained a phenotype close to the original Corsican mouflon. As a result, the Ovis Grand Slam Club now recognizes them as a distinct subspecies:
"French Mainland Corsican Mouflon."
With outstanding surroundings, the French Mainland Corsican Mouflon can be hunted in the south of France at several free range areas situated in Alps mountains, Pyrenean mountains and Massif Central mountains.
Accommodation is provided at a comfortable hotel or hunting lodge. For your entire stay, you will have an English-speaking guide, a member of Club Faune team.
A French Mainland Corsican Mouflon Hunt can be combined with others hunts for Alpine Chamois, Pyrenean Chamois, Chartreuse Chamois, Vercors Chamois, European Mouflon, Wild Boar, Roe Deer, Fallow Deer, Red Deer and Bird Shooting.
