Pyrenean Chamois
Latin name : Rupicapra pyrenaica pyrenaica

An iconic resident of the Pyrenean mountains, the Pyrenean Chamois or isard (Rupicapra pyrenaica pyrenaica) is the local subspecies of the chamois. Smaller and stockier than its Alpine cousin, it is distinguished by a darker coat—especially in winter—and by its thin, hooked horns.

Perfectly adapted to steep terrain and the harsh climate of the Pyrenees, the isard inhabits alpine meadows, scree slopes, and also forested areas on north-facing slopes. A shy and discreet species, it usually lives in small groups and is difficult to spot outside of the rutting or birthing seasons.

The trophy is different from the other chamois’ with sharply curved horns.

Stalking is the only method of hunting Chamois.
